Teachers and administrators communicate with all stakeholders in a school community regularly. It can be a challenge to meet the communication needs of students, parents, and staff, all while planning, implementing and evaluating curriculum. The language parents and educators use to respond to children can actually help or hinder how they learn and how high their self-esteem is. Research has shown that once youth understand how their brain works and what they can do to optimize brain health, their social emotional health and motivation to learn increases. In this series, parents and educators can learn about the relationship between executive functions and emotional regulation, and how that affects academics in addition to stress and well-being.

Led by Peace at Home Parenting Amy Alamar, Ed D and Dana Asby, MA, M Ed, this series will explore how to:

  • Learn more about the connection between self-esteem and growth mindset
  • Learn how to use growth-based feedback to encourage children to take appropriate risks and feel more confident to try new things.
  • Give feedback using language that supports youth’s self-esteem
  • Coach youth back to confidence after a failure
  • Learn about how stress affects different parts of the brain and the impact that has on learning and emotional well-being
  • Practice stress reduction techniques that can be taught to children or students
  • Make a plan for teaching children/students about how their brain works and what they can do to optimize brain health
