About This Workshop

“Tiger parenting” is characterized by strict discipline and high expectations for academic success, commonly observed in Asian communities. However, this concept oversimplifies the complex nature of parenting practices in their unique cultural and family contexts. Gaining awareness about how our childhood experiences impact us as adults can free us up to live our lives with more ease and joy.

After this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Describe the five aspects of parenting practices that influenced our development as children
  • Recognize how relationships with our parents in childhood may influence us today
  • Consider the impact of our parents’ childhoods and life experiences on their approaches to parenting
  • Recognize how culture and life events are linked to family stress and parenting practices
  • Apply strategies to strengthen well-being and increase compassion for self and others
