Balancing Kids, Grandparents, Gifts and More. The holidays are meant to bring joy—but for many parents, they also come with stress, family pressure, and competing expectations. This year, join Peace At Home founder Ruth Freeman, LCSW and guest Cora D’Alessandro, MA for a Lunch & Learn Discussion that will help parents of children of all ages create more meaningful, joyful holidays—without the stress.

Ruth and Cora will share practical strategies and compassionate insights on how to manage holiday stress, honor family traditions, and set loving boundaries with grandparents while keeping the focus on connection. You’ll learn how to collaborate across generations to create celebrations that feel good for everyone—especially your kids.

Challenges & Solutions

The holidays are meant to bring joy. But for many parents, they also bring pressure, endless planning, and the weight of everyone else’s expectations. In fact, one poll found 20% of parents say holiday stress negatively affects family life – and nearly twice as many moms as dads rate their stress levels as “high.”

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to share the mental load of holiday prep and planning, and how to set clear expectations and boundaries. We’ll also show you ways to make the planning process part of your family connection, rather than a solo burden. Whether you’re parenting solo or with a partner, and whatever your children’s ages, you’ll leave with practical tools to bring more ease, equity, and joy into your holiday season – starting with Halloween!

Parents are craving:

  • Recognition of the invisible labor they carry (especially for moms).
  • Tools to communicate, collaborate, and share the load — especially with partners and older kids.
  • A path to connection, not just survival, through the holidays.
  • Relief from being the “default planner” of every meal, gift, and moment.

Let’s do this together. Join us for straight talk, simple solutions, and practical ways to create less stress and more joy, so your whole family can look forward to the holiday season!

Challenges & Solutions

Does it ever feel like your family is stuck in an endless race—to do more, be more, or measure up to others? Unrealistic expectations can leave both parents and children feeling like they’re never enough.

In this previously hosted session, we explore how perfectionism and comparison are deeply intertwined, feeding the illusion that other families “have it all together.” Social media, academic pressure, and even well-meaning parenting habits can reinforce this cycle, increasing stress, anxiety, and disconnection within the family.

Perfectionism has become increasingly common, especially among young people, over the past 30 years and is associated with depression, eating disorders, and even suicide. But the good news is, you can interrupt this cycle. You’ll learn how to shift away from unrealistic standards and toward values like authenticity, connection, and self-compassion.

Watch this previously hosted session with Peace at Home Founder, Ruth Freeman, LCSW, to learn how to recognize these harmful patterns, understand their emotional impact, and take concrete steps to foster a healthier, more accepting family environment.

Challenges & Solutions

A lot has changed since you were a kid.

Today’s teens face a rapidly shifting landscape of substance use—from flavored vapes and high-potency cannabis products to THC-infused sodas and colorful gummies that look like harmless candy. These products are easily accessible, cleverly marketed, and often perceived as “safer” alternatives, even though the risks are real and rising.

You’ll explore why adolescence naturally invites risk taking, how substances like nicotine and cannabis affect developing brains, and how to recognize the difference between experimentation and early signs of addiction. Whether your child is substance-free or already experimenting, this workshop will equip you with the tools to respond calmly, clearly, and effectively. When you’re informed, connected, and proactive, you can make a powerful difference.

Join Jonathan Beazley, LADC, LMFT, and Ruth Freeman, LCSW, founder of Peace At Home Parenting, for this interactive workshop, which combines clinical expertise with real-world strategies to help you support your teen without shame or fear.
