Raising Happy, Resilient Kids: Parenting with Optimism and Confidence

November 06, 2025 12:00 pm EDT/EST
Take This Workshop

Expert

Peace at Home Parenting Founder and Expert Ruth Freeman Ruth Freeman,LCSW

Challenges & Solutions

Does it ever feel like your child believes the next new toy, gadget, or pair of cool sneakers will finally make them happy? You’re not alone – we’ve all been there! Sure, those shiny new things might spark joy for a day or two, but what about lasting happiness?

What really makes our kids happy in the long run? Too often, we get swept up in what ads and social media claim will bring joy. It turns out the secret to raising a happy child isn’t found at the mall or in the toy aisle, but in something much more meaningful. We start by learning the difference between pleasure and happiness for both our kids and ourselves.

Research shows that more “stuff” doesn’t lead to real, lifelong happiness. Instead, raising truly happy kids comes from nurturing their inner strengths. Optimism – a hopeful, positive outlook on life – and resilience – the ability to bounce back from challenges – are skills strongly linked to children’s well-being and future success.

The good news is that even though every child has their own temperament, parents can easily help boost these traits. In this fun and practical workshop, we’ll explore simple day-to-day strategies to grow your child’s optimism and resilience (and your own!).

Best of all, you’ll gain the confidence to set loving limits on all that “stuff” and refocus on what really counts for a happy family. Imagine feeling sure of yourself when you say “enough” to new toys and instead share experiences that make your child light up from the inside out. Whether your child is a toddler, a teen, or somewhere in between, these ideas will help parents of all age groups create a more joyful, connected home. Join Peace at Home founder Ruth Freeman, LCSW and discover how focusing on optimism and resilience can bring more smiles (and fewer gimmies) into your family’s life!

Our Solution Series Libraries are developed around a specific parenting challenge. Each Series includes a collection of hand-picked, easily digestible (15 min+/-) videos which unlock a key piece of the parenting puzzle. Read our summary of this Series below then click on each lesson to access the class description, video, handouts, and information about our Expert(s).
