Balancing Kids, Grandparents, Gifts and More. The holidays are meant to bring joy—but for many parents, they also come with stress, family pressure, and competing expectations. Between excited kids, endless gift lists, and well-meaning grandparents who may have very different ideas about what’s “best,” it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

This year, join Peace At Home founder Ruth Freeman, LCSW and guest Cora D’Alessandro, MA for a Lunch & Learn Discussion that will help parents of children of all ages create more meaningful, joyful holidays—without the stress.

Ruth and Cora will share practical strategies and compassionate insights on how to manage holiday stress, honor family traditions, and set loving boundaries with grandparents while keeping the focus on connection. You’ll learn how to collaborate across generations to create celebrations that feel good for everyone—especially your kids.

Raising Happy, Resilient Kids: Parenting with Optimism and Confidence

November 06, 2025 12:00 pm EDT/EST
Take This Workshop

Expert

Peace at Home Parenting Founder and Expert Ruth Freeman Ruth Freeman,LCSW

Challenges & Solutions

Does it ever feel like your child believes the next new toy, gadget, or pair of cool sneakers will finally make them happy? You’re not alone – we’ve all been there! Sure, those shiny new things might spark joy for a day or two, but what about lasting happiness?

What really makes our kids happy in the long run? Too often, we get swept up in what ads and social media claim will bring joy. It turns out the secret to raising a happy child isn’t found at the mall or in the toy aisle, but in something much more meaningful. We start by learning the difference between pleasure and happiness for both our kids and ourselves.

Research shows that more “stuff” doesn’t lead to real, lifelong happiness. Instead, raising truly happy kids comes from nurturing their inner strengths. Optimism – a hopeful, positive outlook on life – and resilience – the ability to bounce back from challenges – are skills strongly linked to children’s well-being and future success.

The good news is that even though every child has their own temperament, parents can easily help boost these traits. In this fun and practical workshop, we’ll explore simple day-to-day strategies to grow your child’s optimism and resilience (and your own!).

Best of all, you’ll gain the confidence to set loving limits on all that “stuff” and refocus on what really counts for a happy family. Imagine feeling sure of yourself when you say “enough” to new toys and instead share experiences that make your child light up from the inside out. Whether your child is a toddler, a teen, or somewhere in between, these ideas will help parents of all age groups create a more joyful, connected home. Join Peace at Home founder Ruth Freeman, LCSW and discover how focusing on optimism and resilience can bring more smiles (and fewer gimmies) into your family’s life!

Lighten the Mental Load: Create a Connected, Low-Stress Holiday Season

Peace at Home Parenting Expert Aaron Weintraub Aaron Weintraub,MS, Curriculum Advisor Peace at Home expert Lucinda Gibbons Lucinda Gibbons,MMFT

Challenges & Solutions

The holidays are meant to bring joy. But for many parents, they also bring pressure, endless planning, and the weight of everyone else’s expectations. In fact, one poll found 20% of parents say holiday stress negatively affects family life – and nearly twice as many moms as dads rate their stress levels as “high.”

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to share the mental load of holiday prep and planning, and how to set clear expectations and boundaries. We’ll also show you ways to make the planning process part of your family connection, rather than a solo burden. Whether you’re parenting solo or with a partner, and whatever your children’s ages, you’ll leave with practical tools to bring more ease, equity, and joy into your holiday season – starting with Halloween!

Parents are craving:

  • Recognition of the invisible labor they carry (especially for moms).
  • Tools to communicate, collaborate, and share the load — especially with partners and older kids.
  • A path to connection, not just survival, through the holidays.
  • Relief from being the “default planner” of every meal, gift, and moment.

Let’s do this together. Join us for straight talk, simple solutions, and practical ways to create less stress and more joy, so your whole family can look forward to the holiday season!

Challenges & Solutions

Does it ever feel like your family is stuck in an endless race—to do more, be more, or measure up to others? Unrealistic expectations can leave both parents and children feeling like they’re never enough.

In this previously hosted session, we explore how perfectionism and comparison are deeply intertwined, feeding the illusion that other families “have it all together.” Social media, academic pressure, and even well-meaning parenting habits can reinforce this cycle, increasing stress, anxiety, and disconnection within the family.

Perfectionism has become increasingly common, especially among young people, over the past 30 years and is associated with depression, eating disorders, and even suicide. But the good news is, you can interrupt this cycle. You’ll learn how to shift away from unrealistic standards and toward values like authenticity, connection, and self-compassion.

Watch this previously hosted session with Peace at Home Founder, Ruth Freeman, LCSW, to learn how to recognize these harmful patterns, understand their emotional impact, and take concrete steps to foster a healthier, more accepting family environment.

Quick Tip

Social Media and Screens give kids a quick dopamine hit—but what they really need is serotonin.

Expert

Peace at Home Parenting Founder and Expert Ruth Freeman Ruth Freeman,LCSW

Challenges & Solutions

Dopamine is like a sugar rush—its a quick feel good brain chemical that doesn’t last. That’s what screens and social media deliver: instant, fleeting highs.

Serotonin, on the other hand, builds slowly. It comes from real connection with other people, from play in nature. Serotonin helps us feel grounded and content over time.

So when your child (or you!) is constantly reaching for a screen, it may help to ask: Is this a quick hit they’re chasing, or something deeper they really need?

Listen in on this one-minute video as Peace at Home Founder and expert Ruth Freeman, LCSW, shares more on this crucial distinction.

Looking for more tips like this? Try our Search Tool, Resource Guides, or email Solutions@Peaceathomeparenting.com, and we’ll connect you with proven solutions that can help break screen time addiction and balance screen time with real-world connections.

Today’s teens face a rapidly shifting landscape of substance use—from flavored vapes and high-potency cannabis products to THC-infused sodas and colorful gummies that look like harmless candy. These products are easily accessible, cleverly marketed, and often perceived as “safer” alternatives, even though the risks are real and rising.

You’ll explore why adolescence naturally invites risk taking, how substances like nicotine and cannabis affect developing brains, and how to recognize the difference between experimentation and early signs of addiction. Whether your child is substance-free or already experimenting, this workshop will equip you with the tools to respond calmly, clearly, and effectively. When you’re informed, connected, and proactive, you can make a powerful difference.

Join Jonathan Beazley, LADC, LMFT, and Ruth Freeman, LCSW, founder of Peace At Home Parenting, for this interactive workshop, which combines clinical expertise with real-world strategies to help you support your teen without shame or fear.

Challenges & Solutions

Is your child glued to their phone—and growing more distant? Are you feeling overwhelmed by group chats, screen time battles, and emotional outbursts tied to social media? You’ve probably already discovered that the solution is not stricter punishments. What really helps is building a stronger connection with your child or teen.

Watch Peace at Home Expert Aaron Weintraub, MS lead this powerful and practical parenting workshop.  You’ll learn how to set healthy tech boundaries without damaging trust. Discover how to move from conflict to cooperation by teaching your child (especially daughters) emotional awareness, digital safety, and mindful habits—with you as their guide, not their warden.

And remember the good news—technology is an incredible asset for kids when used intentionally. From learning apps and research tools to creative expression, social support, and safe identity exploration, tech can help your child grow, connect, and thrive in ways previous generations couldn’t have imagined.

When we shift from fear to curiosity—and from control to collaboration—we create space for kids to build a healthy, balanced relationship with technology that supports both their mental health and personal development.

Playfulness

Expert

Peace at Home Parenting Expert Aaron Weintraub Aaron Weintraub,MS, Curriculum Advisor

Challenges & Solutions

Quick Tip for Parents: Playfulness is your superpower.

If parents had a true superpower, would it be flight? Invisibility?
Nope, it’s playfulness. And it just might be the silver bullet you’ve been looking for.

When your child is melting down, refusing to cooperate, or digging in their heels, try this:
✨ Get playful, not louder, not stricter… just sillier.

Because playfulness isn’t just fun, it’s actually a powerful emotional regulator. It tells your child’s nervous system: You’re safe. You’re connected. You’re not alone.

Kids don’t cooperate when they feel afraid or disconnected. They cooperate when they feel secure. Playfulness lowers tension, builds trust, and rewires power struggles into connection.

Bottom line? Play isn’t a distraction, it’s a bridge.
Your child doesn’t need control. They need your calm, curious, playful presence. Playfulness isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom. And it’s one of the most effective tools in your parenting toolbox.

Listen in on this one-minute video as Peace at Home expert Aaron Weintraub, MS shares your superpower.
