Raising a daughter in today’s world feels more complex than ever. You want to raise her to be confident and strong, but you also worry about the pressures she faces—from friendships and social media to a culture that’s constantly sending mixed messages about her worth.  You want to be her guide, her soft place to land, but sometimes it feels like you’re speaking a different language.

What if the secret to navigating it all isn’t a list of rules, but the strength of your connection with her?

This workshop is about becoming the calm, confident guide your daughter needs. We’ll explore how your secure and loving relationship can be the anchor that holds her steady through the stormy seas of growing up. We start from a simple, powerful belief: deep down, your daughter is good, and her behavior is just her way of communicating what she needs. Our job is to listen underneath the words.

You are your daughter’s most important relationship. Join Peace at Home Experts Tanika Eaves, PhD, LCSW, IMH-E®, and Aaron Weintraub, MS, to learn how to strengthen that connection and become the secure anchor she can count on, no matter what challenges come her way.

Challenges & Solutions

Join a candid Lunch and Learn conversation with Peace at Home founder Ruth E. Freeman, LCSW as she interviews experts on the issues that matter most to parents. Jump in, ask questions, make comments, and connect with other parents who are seeking answers to the tough questions.

This month, Ruth talks with Lucinda Gibbons, MFT, the lead Fair Play clinical trainer.

Join them to dive into the surprising connection between everyday household tasks and a meaningful romantic relationship. If you’re a parent feeling overwhelmed by the invisible mental load of parenting and household chores, this session is for you.

You’ll learn how sharing responsibilities with your partner doesn’t just lighten your load — it actually improves your well-being, increases relationship satisfaction, and creates a healthier environment for your children. Drawing on the evidence that parents who perceive responsibilities as fairly shared experience greater intimacy, stronger partnerships and more effective parenting, we’ll explore practical strategies for balancing duties, letting go of the “perfect parent” myth, and establishing a more equitable partnership. We’ll reference the principles of Fair Play throughout to show how intentional allocation and communication around tasks can transform your connection with your partner.

Raising boys is a journey filled with beautiful chaos. It’s the boundless energy, the muddy sneakers, the unexpected tenderness, and the big, stormy feelings that can leave you wondering if you’re getting any of this right. You see the good kid you know is in there, but sometimes it gets lost behind a wall of defiance, a sudden outburst, or the frustrating silence of a slammed door.

You’re not alone. In a world full of noise and distractions, it’s easy to feel like you’re losing your influence. You might be asking yourself:

  • How do I handle his endless energy and aggression without crushing his spirit?
  • How can I get him to listen without yelling, threatening, or giving in?
  • How do I stay his most trusted guide when the pull of his friends gets stronger every day?

This workshop isn’t about finding the perfect technique to control behavior. It’s about something much deeper and more powerful: strengthening your connection. Because when your bond is secure, everything else gets easier. You become the safe harbor he can always return to, no matter how stormy the seas get.

Join Peace at Home Experts Aaron Weintraub, MS and Amy Alamar, Ed.D. as they share proven strategies and tools you can use every day to create connection and nurture resilient young men.  We look forward to hearing your stories and challenges and coming together to share the journey.  If you have a specific question or topic you’d like to share with Aaron and Amy ahead of time, please email Solutions@peaceathomeparenting.com.

Challenges & Solutions

The holidays are meant to bring joy. But for many parents, they also bring pressure, endless planning, and the weight of everyone else’s expectations. In fact, one poll found 20% of parents say holiday stress negatively affects family life – and nearly twice as many moms as dads rate their stress levels as “high.”

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to share the mental load of holiday prep and planning, and how to set clear expectations and boundaries. We’ll also show you ways to make the planning process part of your family connection, rather than a solo burden. Whether you’re parenting solo or with a partner, and whatever your children’s ages, you’ll leave with practical tools to bring more ease, equity, and joy to your holiday season.

Parents are craving:

  • Recognition of the invisible labor they carry (especially for moms).
  • Tools to communicate, collaborate, and share the load — especially with partners and older kids.
  • A path to connection, not just survival, through the holidays.
  • Relief from being the “default planner” of every meal, gift, and moment.

Let’s do this together.  Join Peace at Home experts Aaron Weintraub, MS, and Lucinda Gibbons, MFT, the lead Fair Play clinical trainer, for straightforward advice, practical solutions, and simple ways to create less stress and more joy, so your whole family can enjoy the holiday season.

Pleasure vs. Happiness for Parents: Reclaiming Joy in a Dopamine Driven World

January 13, 2026 12:00 pm EDT/EST
Take This Workshop

Peace at Home Parenting Founder and Expert Ruth Freeman Ruth Freeman,LCSW Peace at Home Parenting Expert Aaron Weintraub Aaron Weintraub,MS, Curriculum Advisor

Challenges & Solutions

Our lives — and our children’s — are filled with constant stimulation. Every ping, like, reward, processed food snack and sugary treat gives a quick hit of dopamine, the brain’s chemical of pleasure and reward. But when busy family life runs on constant dopamine bursts — from screens to snacks to scrolling — true happiness begins to fade.

In this one-hour, interactive digital workshop, we’ll explore Dr. Robert Lustig’s groundbreaking insight into the difference between pleasure and happiness — and how understanding this simple but profound contrast can reshape the emotional climate of your home.

You’ll discover how everyday family interactions — morning routines, after-school check-ins, dinner conversations, even weekend activities — either fuel dopamine (short-term pleasure) or serotonin (long-term happiness). You’ll learn how marketing, media, and social platforms are expertly designed to keep families stuck in the dopamine loop — and how this cycle impacts focus, cooperation, empathy, motivation, and mental health.

Together, we’ll unpack the addictive nature of dopamine-driven habits, the subtle ways they hijack our choices, and the steps parents can take to rebalance family life toward serotonin-based connection, meaning, and calm joy.

This workshop is for parents of kids of all ages who want to feel more grounded, raise emotionally strong children, and bring back true happiness to family life.

Join us for an hour with Peace At Home founder Ruth Freeman, LCSW and inspiring teacher Aaron Weintraub, MS, that may change how you think about everything from snacks to screens — and help you build a home where calm, connection, and joy take center stage.

Raising Happy, Resilient Kids: Parenting with Optimism and Confidence

November 06, 2025 12:00 pm EDT/EST
Take This Workshop

Expert

Peace at Home Parenting Founder and Expert Ruth Freeman Ruth Freeman,LCSW

Challenges & Solutions

Does it ever feel like your child believes the next new toy, gadget, or pair of cool sneakers will finally make them happy? You’re not alone – we’ve all been there! Sure, those shiny new things might spark joy for a day or two, but what about lasting happiness?

What really makes our kids happy in the long run? Too often, we get swept up in what ads and social media claim will bring joy. It turns out the secret to raising a happy child isn’t found at the mall or in the toy aisle, but in something much more meaningful. We start by learning the difference between pleasure and happiness for both our kids and ourselves.

Research shows that more “stuff” doesn’t lead to real, lifelong happiness. Instead, raising truly happy kids comes from nurturing their inner strengths. Optimism – a hopeful, positive outlook on life – and resilience – the ability to bounce back from challenges – are skills strongly linked to children’s well-being and future success.

The good news is that even though every child has their own temperament, parents can easily help boost these traits. In this fun and practical workshop, we’ll explore simple day-to-day strategies to grow your child’s optimism and resilience (and your own!).

Best of all, you’ll gain the confidence to set loving limits on all that “stuff” and refocus on what really counts for a happy family. Imagine feeling sure of yourself when you say “enough” to new toys and instead share experiences that make your child light up from the inside out. Whether your child is a toddler, a teen, or somewhere in between, these ideas will help parents of all age groups create a more joyful, connected home. Watch this previously hosted session with Peace at Home founder Ruth Freeman, LCSW and discover how focusing on optimism and resilience can bring more smiles (and fewer gimmies) into your family’s life!

Challenges & Solutions

Does it ever feel like your family is stuck in an endless race—to do more, be more, or measure up to others? Unrealistic expectations can leave both parents and children feeling like they’re never enough.

In this previously hosted session, we explore how perfectionism and comparison are deeply intertwined, feeding the illusion that other families “have it all together.” Social media, academic pressure, and even well-meaning parenting habits can reinforce this cycle, increasing stress, anxiety, and disconnection within the family.

Perfectionism has become increasingly common, especially among young people, over the past 30 years and is associated with depression, eating disorders, and even suicide. But the good news is, you can interrupt this cycle. You’ll learn how to shift away from unrealistic standards and toward values like authenticity, connection, and self-compassion.

Watch this previously hosted session with Peace at Home Founder, Ruth Freeman, LCSW, to learn how to recognize these harmful patterns, understand their emotional impact, and take concrete steps to foster a healthier, more accepting family environment.

The Real Reason Kids Can’t Put Down Screens, And How You Can Help

Expert

Peace at Home Parenting Founder and Expert Ruth Freeman Ruth Freeman,LCSW

Challenges & Solutions

Social Media and Screens give kids a quick dopamine hit—but what they really need is serotonin.

Dopamine is like a sugar rush—its a quick feel good brain chemical that doesn’t last. That’s what screens and social media deliver: instant, fleeting highs.

Serotonin, on the other hand, builds slowly. It comes from real connection with other people, from play in nature. Serotonin helps us feel grounded and content over time.

So when your child (or you!) is constantly reaching for a screen, it may help to ask: Is this a quick hit they’re chasing, or something deeper they really need?

Listen in on this one-minute video as Peace at Home Founder and expert Ruth Freeman, LCSW, shares more on this crucial distinction.

Looking for more tips like this? Try our Search Tool, Resource Guides, or email Solutions@Peaceathomeparenting.com, and we’ll connect you with proven solutions that can help break screen time addiction and balance screen time with real-world connections.

Challenges & Solutions

A lot has changed since you were a kid.

Today’s teens face a rapidly shifting landscape of substance use—from flavored vapes and high-potency cannabis products to THC-infused sodas and colorful gummies that look like harmless candy. These products are easily accessible, cleverly marketed, and often perceived as “safer” alternatives, even though the risks are real and rising.

You’ll explore why adolescence naturally invites risk taking, how substances like nicotine and cannabis affect developing brains, and how to recognize the difference between experimentation and early signs of addiction. Whether your child is substance-free or already experimenting, this workshop will equip you with the tools to respond calmly, clearly, and effectively. When you’re informed, connected, and proactive, you can make a powerful difference.
