A Two-Part Workshop for Parents

Adolescence is a time of growth, change, and increasing autonomy—but it can also bring challenges related to mental health, social pressures, and identity development. Research consistently shows that a strong parent-child relationship is one of the most powerful protective factors for a child’s well-being. But what actually makes that relationship with your child strong?

In this interactive two-part workshop you will gain evidence-based strategies to strengthen resilience, foster optimism, and support your tweens and teens as they navigate today’s complex world.

Session 1: The Power of Connection – Protecting Mental Health and Social Development  In this session at 12 pm on March 26th, we will focus on how positive parent-youth relationships serve as a critical buffer against anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts.

Session 2: Preparing for Independence – Communication, Resilience & the Path to Adulthood will be at 12pm on April 22nd. (Learn More Here).

Each session will include evidence-based strategies, interactive discussions, and actionable takeaways to strengthen your relationship with your tween or teen. Whether your child is struggling or thriving, these workshops will provide valuable insights to help them develop the resilience, optimism, and skills they need to navigate adolescence and confidently transition into adulthood.

Adolescence is a time when parents need lots of support. Don’t go it alone. Join us and parents like yourself for this evidence-based, engaging series. Gain the knowledge and tools to nurture strong, resilient, and optimistic tweens and teens.

As your child enters the tween and teen years their brain changes in ways that cause them to find their tribe of peers. This may mean that they are less likely to seek the advice and validation of adults but it doesn’t mean they don’t need your calm, consistent guidance.

Challenges & Solutions

  • Are you constantly solving your child’s problems?
  • Do conflicts arise over challenges that might not be yours to fix?
  • Do you wish your child could handle challenges more effectively?

This workshop will help you identify who “owns” a problem—whether it’s yours or your child’s responsibility—and how to approach it. By understanding this distinction, you can avoid unnecessary conflicts, reduce stress, and empower your child to become a capable problem solver.

When teens see themselves as problem solvers, they’re less likely to engage in risky behaviors, including substance use or self-harm. Teaching your child how to solve problems strengthens their emotional intelligence, preparing them for success in relationships, at work, and in life now and in the future. Join Peace at Home Founder Ruth E Freeman, LCSW to explore strategies that make life easier for you and your family while fostering your child’s independence and resilience.

As your child transitions to college life, their overall wellness is crucial for academic and social success. This comprehensive workshop equips parents with proactive strategies to support their college freshman’s mental health and well-being.

Recognizing that the first year can be filled with new stresses and challenges, we’ll discuss concrete ways to guide your young adult toward healthy habits. Gain insights on managing stress, whether it stems from academic pressures, social dynamics, or the adjustment to independent living.

Importantly, we’ll cover how to set up the necessary support systems before problems arise. Challenges & Solutions

Are you a parent who loves seeing your kids bond with their grandparents but struggles with boundaries over discipline, bedtime, or screen time? Or are you a grandparent who cherishes time with your grandchildren but feels challenged by new parenting styles?

If concerns have been building but you’re hesitant to express them, you’re not alone. A recent C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital study found that nearly half of parents report disagreements with grandparents over parenting choices, yet many remain silent. When issues go unresolved, relationships can suffer, and in some cases, parents may limit grandparents’ access—a loss felt most deeply by the children.

Join Peace at Home Founder Ruth E. Freeman, LCSW, and expert Cora Megan D’Allesandro, MA, as they dive into the dynamics of the grandparent-parent-child triangle, helping families address challenges and strengthen relationships for the long-term benefit of everyone involved.
