Pre-Natal Infant

Experts

JoAnn Robinson,PhD Autumn Cloud-Ingram,LCSW Cora Megan,MA

Challenges & Solutions

The early weeks after birth can be confusing and exhausting while you and your baby learn how to manage feeding and sleeping. Learn about your baby’s early needs and development so you are ready to adapt to life with your newborn. Strategies that balance their needs with yours really make a difference.  Infants thrive when parents recognize temperament, how the baby learns, and how your early weeks together can be enhanced when you create rhythms and routines to care for the baby and yourself.

Challenges & Solutions

Children who recognize and can manage their emotions as well as recognize and influence the emotions of others tend to be more successful. You play a big role in teaching your child those important skills.

You do it through modeling and other approaches which you may not recognize as important to our child’s development. You may be like many parents who want to be more patient. Maybe you want to stop yelling, threatening and punishing. Yet, you can’t imagine how to inspire cooperation without those old standby methods.

You probably won’t be surprised to learn that through punishment you might scare a child into following directions in the short run, but you don’t get long term behavior changes.

Mountains of research has shown without doubt that children seek connection with their parents and those parents who focus that connection on positive behavior, win more cooperation.

Mental Health Knowledge and Skills

Challenges & Solutions

The parent-child relationship is the most powerful mental health intervention known to humankind. – Bessel van de Kolk

Even before the Pandemic, mental health disorders were the most common diseases of childhood. Due to the dramatic increase in children and teens entering hospital emergency departments, some are declaring a pediatric mental health emergency. Whether your child is doing fine and you want to prevent future mental health issues, or your child just doesn’t seem like their usual self or has actually declared suicidal thoughts, you can help.

Increase your awareness so that you can be positive and intentional about your relationship with your child.

Parents with Mental Health Literacy recognize that their own mental health affects their children’s well-being and that children’s behavior is sometimes a call for help. Mental health literacy is the ability to prevent, recognize and cope with mental health conditions.
