Parent Burnout and Kids’ Mental Health: What Really Matters?

May 16, 2023 8:00 pm EDT/EST

Expert

Ruth Freeman,LCSW

Challenges & Solutions

If you’re feeling like you don’t have the bandwidth to be the parent you really want to be, you are not alone.

One recent study reports that 66% of working parents are experiencing “parental burnout” which may include increased anxiety, depression, use of alcohol, increased punitive parenting and even feeling distant from their kids. At the same time we are seeing soaring rates of depression, anxiety, self-harm and other mental health problems in children and teens. The American Academy of Pediatrics has actually declared a “national crisis” in pediatric mental health. This post-pandemic perfect storm is impacting families across the country.

This workshop will help you recognize the ways this national crisis may be affecting your family and/or how to protect your family from its impact. You’ll have a chance to consider parenting basics that can reduce family challenges and strengthen family well-being. You’ll be able to look at when you may want to lean in a bit more with your kids and when you can step back to reduce stress.

Omnicom Exclusive Workshop – Bring Your Inner Child To Work Day

April 27, 2023 4:00 pm EDT/EST

Experts

Ruth Freeman,LCSW Cora Megan,MA

Challenges & Solutions

Let’s be real…many of us have had our kids “at work” enough over the past couple of years, but what about our “inner child?” Let’s bring them out to play.

So what is your “inner child?” One definition refers to your subconscious mind that was picking up messages before you were mentally and emotionally able to fully process what was happening around you. Your inner child holds emotions, memories and beliefs from the past, as well as hopes and dreams for the future.

Your inner child holds some gifts you may not be accessing. Children learn and thrive through play, so we will examine the ways that bringing that playful part of us to work can stimulate creativity, relaxation and positive relationships.

Join Peace At Home founder, Ruth E. Freeman, LCSW and much loved early childhood expert, Cora Megan, MA to think together about how your inner child is either showing up in ways that challenge you or maybe getting ignored in ways that limit your happiness and satisfaction with life.

Vernon Exclusive Workshop – Anxious Children: What Really Helps?

April 26, 2023 7:00 pm EDT/EST

Experts

Aaron Weintraub,MS, Curriculum Advisor Hanna Brinkhaus,MA, LCSW

Challenges & Solutions

Your child may be struggling with anxiety. And you may feel frustrated and helpless. You are not alone, and there are proven strategies you can use to help your anxious child.

Does any of this sound like your child?

  • Clinging, crying and/or tantrums when you separate
  • Excessive shyness, avoiding social situations
  • Constant worry
  • Avoiding situations or places because of fears
  • Complaints of frequent stomach aches or headaches
  • Sudden and frequent panic attacks

One in three children will experience an anxiety disorder before adulthood. Unless treated, childhood anxiety doesn’t just go away, and many will grow up to be anxious adults. If you’re wondering what to say to your anxious child to help them, or if you’re simply curious what symptoms of child anxiety look like, this workshop is for you.

Talking to my Child About their Diagnosis of Autism

April 18, 2023 12:00 pm EDT/EST

Experts

Aaron Weintraub,MS, Curriculum Advisor Ruth Freeman,LCSW

Challenges & Solutions

A diagnosis of a mental health issue or disability can come as a relief when it validates or expands your understanding of your child. It gives your family a place to start creating a support plan. You may also wonder about how much to say and how to say it to your child in a way that doesn’t harm their self-worth. In addition, when others in your family or community display symptoms of these challenges, children will often make up explanations that are not accurate. In all these cases, children will benefit from straightforward information delivered with a compassionate point of view. A little bit of preparation can go a long way in helping your child cope well and strengthen their resilience. Join Peace At Home founder Ruth Freeman and teacher Aaron Weintraub for a lively discussion as well as answers to your questions about this important topic.
