The transition back to work from Family Leave can be challenging. Birthing mothers strive to balance involvement in the world of work with the biological and emotional changes that accompany a recent birth. Parent involvement with baby’s total care can be immensely rewarding as well as exhausting, and relinquishing some of that care to others is often anxiety-provoking. Parents gain easy access to expert information and guidance from the Welcome Baby – Welcome Back to Work library while on Family Leave and as they return to work. From eating, sleeping and just surviving to answering questions like, “Will work harm my relationship with my baby?” busy parents appreciate quick evidence-based solutions to everyday challenges as well as major concerns.

Schools face academic loss challenges every year, and in response to COVID-19 we are seeing an even greater loss and a widening of the achievement gap. So how can we address the loss and build understanding? First, we can start with building empathy, and then as a community, we can embrace the academic challenge.

Led by Peace at Home Parenting experts Amy Alamar, Ed D, and Dana Asby, MA, M Ed, this series addresses the important issues faced by educators: How do we build community and approach academics after such a challenging time in education? What have students experienced, what do they need, and how can we begin to capture their attention and engage them in learning? We will introduce practical and effective ways to emphasize emotional safety and equity for in-person and hybrid environments.

This series supports the ability of educators to:

  • Recall strategies to build resilience
  • Foster community and nurture relationships
  • Recognize and address grief
  • Establish/Re-establish routine

What is most delightful and sometimes maddening about children is that they are right here in this moment. They try to bring us into the present, but we often resist – cell phone in hand, shopping list in mind, eyes on the road to the future or worrying about the past. When we spend a lot of time on “auto-pilot,” life begins to feel empty and our relationship with our children can suffer. This series is focused on the meaning of mindfulness, why it is important and explores ways you can bring it into your life right this minute. In this library of classes you will learn ways to:

  • Apply strategies to respond effectively to stress in the moment.
  • Teach these practices to children, from toddlers to high school students.
  • Apply tools to use when children demonstrate challenging behaviors.
  • Make healthier choices with your time and energy to increase family connection
  • Reduce overall stress, anxiety, and depression
  • Use play to connect with each other in happy ways
