MIT Welcome Baby, Welcome Back to Work

26/04/2022 12:00 pm EDT/EST

Challenges & Solutions

Join us for this expert-led live class exclusively for MIT. A recording of the class with handouts will be available once the class is complete.

  • Are you planning to return to work, or are you already back?
  • Concerned that hours away from baby will harm your attachment?
  • Feeling a bit confused or overwhelmed with how to choose a caregiver for baby?

The transition back to work from Family Leave is often challenging. Being involved with the baby’s total care can be immensely rewarding as well as exhausting, and relinquishing some of that care to others is often anxiety-provoking.  Join Peace At Home experts JoAnn Robinson, PhD and with other parents to get answers and solutions on the spot. What are baby’s needs and what are your needs as you transition back to work? Participants in this session will be able to:

  • Identify your values for what your baby experiences while you work
  • Compare benefits of different types of care
  • Learn how to choose what feels right for you
  • Create routines that work for you and your baby

Mental Health Essentials for Parents: Knowledge and Skills to Support Your Child (MIT)

30/03/2022 12:00 pm EDT

Challenges & Solutions

Join us for this expert-led live class exclusively for MIT. A recording of the class with handouts will be available once the class is complete.

All children are sad, anxious, irritable, or aggressive at times. Occasionally kids find it challenging to sit still, pay attention, or interact with others. In most cases, these are just typical phases in their development. However, these behaviors may indicate a more serious problem in some children. Without attention, these mental health conditions can prevent children from reaching their full potential.

Whether your child is doing fine and you want to  prevent future mental health issues, or your child just  doesn’t seem like their usual self, or has actually  declared suicidal thoughts, you can help.

Participants in this class will be able to:

  • Identify and apply relationship strategies and everyday habits that support good mental health in children and teens.
  • Recognize the impact of parents’ mental health on the family.
  • Recognize and respond to signs in children and teens that more mental health support is needed.

Challenges & Solutions

Teen development can be confusing and inspiring, sometimes at the same time. One moment your teen is making perfect sense and you are feeling optimistic about the way they are maturing. The next moment they seem swamped with emotion and dramatic in ways you just don’t understand. We will discuss some of your big questions like:

  • What does your teen really need from you and their environment in order to thrive?
  • How can you help them develop the skills and capacities they need for a successful launch into adulthood?
  • When can you let go and when do you need to set firm limits?
  • What are yellow and red flags when it comes to their emotional health and how can you respond in helpful ways?

One thing is for sure – it takes a village – not just to support your teen but to help you stay grounded and positive during these turbulent years. Don’t go it alone. Join us to feel more confident and less confused about this challenging and inspiring time in your child’s development.
