About this Workshop

Your child wants a new app, or more privacy on their phone, or just less of you checking in. Where’s the line between keeping them safe and giving them room to grow up online?

Digital citizenship offers a different starting point. Instead of controlling every move, it’s about building the skills kids need to make good calls on their own, while parents stay close enough to help when it counts.

Listen in on Peace at Home Founder Ruth E. Freeman, LCSW, as she discusses new perspectives on kids, technology and how parents can make a difference with her guest Liz Sweigart, PhD. Gain insights into fostering a healthy and secure tech environment for your children and enhance your family’s digital safety knowledge.

  • Liz Sweigart, PhD is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Computer Science department at Vanderbilt University, where she researches youth online safety. She was the Chief Product and Strategy Officer for Safe Kids AI, an EdTech company on a mission to empower kids to be safer online by helping them make better decisions. Liz is passionate about using her well-honed skills to help parents support children to be safe online while respecting their autonomy and creativity.

Breaking the screen time cycle doesn’t happen overnight. It’s messy. But if you lead with empathy, stay calm when the feelings get big, and prioritize your bond over the battle, you’ll find your way through. You’ve got this.
