About This Workshop

Does it ever feel like your family is stuck in an endless race—to do more, be more, or measure up to others? Unrealistic expectations can leave both parents and children feeling like they’re never enough.

In this session, we’ll explore how perfectionism and comparison are deeply intertwined, feeding the illusion that other families “have it all together.” Social media, academic pressure, and even well-meaning parenting habits can reinforce this cycle, increasing stress, anxiety, and disconnection within the family.

Perfectionism has become increasingly common, especially among young people, over the past 30 years and is associated with depression, eating disorders, and even suicide. But the good news is, you can interrupt this cycle. You’ll learn how to shift away from unrealistic standards and toward values like authenticity, connection, and self-compassion.

Join Peace at Home Founder, Ruth Freeman LCSW to learn how to recognize these harmful patterns, understand their emotional impact, and take concrete steps to foster a healthier, more accepting family environment.

After this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Identify traits of perfectionism in yourself and/or your child
  • Understand how comparison, especially through social media and peer culture, fuels perfectionism and distorts reality
  • Recognize the emotional and mental health risks tied to perfectionism, including anxiety and depression
  • Challenge the illusion of “perfect families” and replace it with realistic, compassionate expectations
  • Apply actionable strategies to reduce perfectionist thinking and comparison-driven stress
  • Support your child in developing self-worth based on who they are, not how they perform
