Raising Happy, Resilient Kids: Parenting with Optimism and Confidence

Peace at Home Parenting Founder and Expert Ruth Freeman Ruth Freeman,LCSW

Challenges & Solutions

Does it ever feel like your child believes the next new toy, gadget, or pair of cool sneakers will finally make them happy? You’re not alone – we’ve all been there! Sure, those shiny new things might spark joy for a day or two, but what about lasting happiness?

What really makes our kids happy in the long run? Too often, we get swept up in what ads and social media claim will bring joy. It turns out the secret to raising a happy child isn’t found at the mall or in the toy aisle, but in something much more meaningful. We start by learning the difference between pleasure and happiness for both our kids and ourselves.

Research shows that more “stuff” doesn’t lead to real, lifelong happiness. Instead, raising truly happy kids comes from nurturing their inner strengths. Optimism – a hopeful, positive outlook on life – and resilience – the ability to bounce back from challenges – are skills strongly linked to children’s well-being and future success.

The good news is that even though every child has their own temperament, parents can easily help boost these traits. In this fun and practical workshop, we’ll explore simple day-to-day strategies to grow your child’s optimism and resilience (and your own!).

Best of all, you’ll gain the confidence to set loving limits on all that “stuff” and refocus on what really counts for a happy family. Imagine feeling sure of yourself when you say “enough” to new toys and instead share experiences that make your child light up from the inside out. Whether your child is a toddler, a teen, or somewhere in between, these ideas will help parents of all age groups create a more joyful, connected home. Join Peace at Home founder Ruth Freeman, LCSW and discover how focusing on optimism and resilience can bring more smiles (and fewer gimmies) into your family’s life!

Challenges & Solutions

The holidays are meant to bring joy. But for many parents, they also bring pressure, endless planning, and the weight of everyone else’s expectations. In fact, one poll found 20% of parents say holiday stress negatively affects family life – and nearly twice as many moms as dads rate their stress levels as “high.”

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to share the mental load of holiday prep and planning, and how to set clear expectations and boundaries. We’ll also show you ways to make the planning process part of your family connection, rather than a solo burden. Whether you’re parenting solo or with a partner, and whatever your children’s ages, you’ll leave with practical tools to bring more ease, equity, and joy into your holiday season – starting with Halloween!

Parents are craving:

  • Recognition of the invisible labor they carry (especially for moms).
  • Tools to communicate, collaborate, and share the load — especially with partners and older kids.
  • A path to connection, not just survival, through the holidays.
  • Relief from being the “default planner” of every meal, gift, and moment.

Let’s do this together. Watch this previously hosted session for straight talk, simple solutions, and practical ways to create less stress and more joy, so your whole family can look forward to the holiday season!
