About This Workshop

For many first-year college students, the dramatic number of new experiences coupled with poor self-care can result in heightened emotional stress and increased mental health challenges. This workshop will empower you with tools to support your college freshman after drop-off. Seasoned experts, who have worked with college freshmen across the country for years, will share insights into the common obstacles and experiences of new college students, from managing academic demands to navigating social dynamics. Gain practical strategies to help your college student develop the skills and habits needed to thrive, both in and out of the classroom.

We’ll cover techniques for communicating effectively with your college freshman, setting appropriate boundaries, and fostering independence. Discover how to provide the right balance of support and space as they adapt to campus life. Identify healthy ways to encourage self-care, stress management, and help-seeking behaviors.

We recognize that the emotional journey for parents doesn’t end when you wave goodbye and leave your child at college. In fact, the transition can be just as challenging for parents as it is for first-year students. This workshop will also help you unpack common emotional experiences of parents, from feelings of loss and worry to the desire to stay involved. Gain strategies to manage these complex emotions with self-compassion.

As your teenager becomes a young adult and enters college, your role may be changing, but your importance has not diminished. While this is a time to allow your child to develop greater independence, you can still help to support their emotional wellbeing. In this class, you will learn when to lean in and when to step back. Leave this workshop with the tools to support your college freshman after drop-off and continue to care for yourself.
