Child and adolescent therapists tend to differ widely in their approaches to including parents in treatment. However it can make a difference when you understand your child’s goals in therapy, adjust parenting approaches based on consideration of your child’s challenges and recognize when your child is or isn’t making progress. Sometimes as parents we need to consider whether we have mental health challenges that may be affecting our child. Parent involvement in therapy varies based on age, strategies being used by the therapist and parent capacities.
