About This Workshop

Rapid growth, exploration and risk taking are all part of teen development. Taking risks give teens a chance to test their abilities and learn more about themselves. Some risks, however, can be harmful and have lasting effects on your child’s health and well-being.

Two of parents’ biggest concerns right now regarding teen health and safety are vaping and cannabis. Vaping has become one of the most popular forms of substance use among young people, despite the growing evidence of its health risks and harms. While nicotine is a common substance used by vaping teens, daily cannabis use in different forms is at a significant level. Whether your child has not tried these substances or has already begun to use or is using regularly, this workshop is for you.

When talking about vaping, nicotine and cannabis with your child, it is helpful to know the myths and the facts. For example, your teen may say, “It’s harmless because it is natural,” or “It’s not addictive,” or “It doesn’t affect my thinking or my grades.” However, research shows that substance use can cause serious problems with learning, feelings, and health. It’s important for you to have informed conversations with your teen. Trust your gut and get the facts. Parent knowledge, communication, and monitoring can make a big difference in keeping your child safe.
