About This Workshop

  • Does the idea of talking with your child about sexual orientation and gender identity feel difficult or even a little scary? 
  • Do you wonder how to raise a child to be open to those issues in themselves and an ally to others? 
  • Are you concerned that your child won’t be safe or accepted or may even encounter bullying because you or they identify as LGBTQ+?

Whether you or your child identifies as LGBTQ+ or you just want to help your kids be more aware and accepting of the range of identities around them, this session is for you.

Clear communication, strong connection, acceptance, and love go a long way in all relationships. And regardless of your child’s identity, bullying is very much a reality especially as civility is diminishing in public discourse. In addition social networking technology has expanded the ways that bullying touches children’s lives. There are proactive steps you can take to equip your child with the tools they need to navigate these difficult situations confidently. Kids who have had conversations with their parents about bullying are more likely to come to their parents for support when they need it. 

Join us for an honest, informative and safe space conversation on this complex topic facilitated by two Peace At Home specialists who are parents as well as professionals in the fields of mental health and family science. Let’s work together to foster a generation of confident, resilient, and empowered individuals. We’ll discuss approaches to arming our children with the skills they need to face the challenges of life with courage and grace.

  • Define gender identity and sexual orientation and as they apply to you and to your child or teen’s positive development.
  • Identify and apply communication strategies to support your child to feel safe about exploring and expressing their identity as well as accepting yours.
  • Empower your child with knowledge and tools to understand, identify, and effectively address bullying behavior.
  • Recognize approaches that will help you maintain your own values and beliefs while connecting with your child in ways that protect their mental health.
